The Night Safari
Posted by tmz_99 on February 23rd, 2007 filed in UncategorizedWent to the Night Safari last night. I was a little sceptical, hearing reports on both side of the fence, but being one of the few non-pub or shopping related attractions in Singapore that was open late – it was an easy entry for the to-do list whilst here.
We (Brett and I) got public transport to the safari, which took about 1 1/2 hrs (retrospectively we should have just got a cab) but we did manage to sample some mini-mandarins from a hawker and meet an english backpacker (she would hang around for the rest of the night – very pleasant girl). So I guess the train had it’s bonuses.
Upon arrival it was clear to see just how much effort had gone into the creation of this attraction, just like the rest of Singapore we were greeted with eateries and shops galore. We paid our $28 and kicked off the night by going to the show. It became quickly transparent that the Night Safari hire their staff not only on competence but on charisma, the show was full of energy and very well done (although there was no real predators let loose on the public (save snakes)).
We then caught the tram, it has to be said that there was a lot of animals there that I had never seen before, from deer with really weird horns, giant flying squirrels and two distinct different types of leopards. The guide was pretty full on, being very knowledgeable and also charismatic. At one point we were able to alight and take a path that put us in the same enclosure as some giant fruit bats and giant flying squirrels (not Godzilla sized, but large non the less). Getting back on the tram we completed the final leg of the journey with elephants and other exotic creatures.
All the animals were awake and doing things, the show was great, one of the best attractions I have seen here thus far and definitely worth the trip.
Going for a run tonight. 🙂
