Almost sober.. .but..

So today I escaped another cyclone.. they evacuated us today for tropical cyclone has-no-name-yet…. I got off one day early which sort of gives me 22 days at home instead of 21.. I say sort of as the cat is really out of the bag, I am about to start in my new position as a materials co-ordinator for a major petroleum company.. 🙂 I’m very happy to have landed the job, all that’s left is a bit of negotiation over my pay, but I’m just happy to face a new set of challenges and growth as a person.. 🙂

I flew in a BK 117 today (the helicopter below) and it was simply the worst helicopter flight I’ve ever been on. Due to the turbulant weather conditions and the light weight of the helicopter (it sits 6 people max, was only transporting 5 due to weather – which I’m thankful for, it was uncomfortable enough with 5) made the helicpter lurch uncotrolably in all directions. The flight took 40 minutes and didn’t end a moment too soon as I was contemplating which bodily function would go 1st.. It was a toss up between my stomach and my conciousness altho all the other functions were certainly in the running also. TWe missed our flight by about 30 seconds which was rather annoying but provided the opportunity to drink a few  quiet drinks at the airport and in the end we were only delayed by 2 hrs. The next helicopter to arrive from our rig was a super-puma, a beast of a chopper which takes a payload of 18 people and due to it’s large size and powerful motors the guys in that flight recounted how smooth the flight went. They did arrive an hour and a half after us, so I guess the extra time to drink was appreciated although certainly not worth the flight.

Other than that the usual slack 1st day home.. 🙂 some brews and a ps2 game.. *sigh*.. I think I might get to cutting and polishing my fridge today as well (pics to be posted soon – not far off getting vinyls fitted) and looking forward to lunches with some awesome people and finally my holiday in Koh Samui….funny story about that, it seems that COMPLETELY BY CHANCE 4 people from my rig (including myself) will be in Koh Samui at the same time, it’s a small island so we are bound to run into each other.. small world isn’t it??
