Movie Review: Transporter 2

When I saw transporter 1 three years ago I was impressed, here was an action that took a different bent on the James Bond theme. Sure, the protagonist had a cool car, he had some slick moves and cheesy lines but the car wasn’t out of the reach of everyman, the moves weren’t outlandish, they were believable and the lines were delivered with a touch of class. There were no gadgets, no hot evil vilaness and something of a jene se qua.

Transporter 2 is a different beast indeed, the man has a new car which he can make perform tricks in mid-air, a sexy and perverse evil nemisis and a cheesy sense of purpose. In the first movie it was quite apperant that the man was a hired gun, doing what he needed to protect himself and get to the bottom of his problem, in this movie he has somehow transformed into the saviour of the just. Not to mention his car never EVER takes ANY damage.  The transporter cringes when kids rub up against his new paintwork, but bullets, meh, the car is BULLET proof, not kid proof.

That being said, it is an enjoyable action movie, if a somewhat dissapointing sequel. The acting is still well done and the action sequences take on an almost Jackie Chan-ish feel but without the loads of comedy. I just wish the directors were truer to the first installment, that being said, I’ll still see the thrid.

Movie Review: The Legend of Zorro (Zorro 2)

Another action movie in one day, I’m sure to be pumped for the gym 🙂
The Legend of Zorro picks up where The Mast of Zorro left off, with Zorro and Ellena happily married, although now with a kid.
Zorro’s dark secret (not his equine obsession, rather his true identity) brings tension into the marrige and Ellena is pushed to breaking point.
The movie is true to it’s original style and also true to the early B&W zorro adventures, at some points if you turn the sound off it really does feel as if you were watching an old flick, the action being fast and somewhat over exadurated I was hanging on for the screen to go black and some ornate “HURRAH” or “Stand down evil villain” to appear on the screen.

7.5/10
