Opening the conversation is never hard for me, it usually goes along the lines of &#8220;Hello, this is Tom from ***, how are you doing today?&#8221; &#8220;fine? oh yes, thats nice, I&#8217;m feeling rather brilliant myself&#8230; now [that the phone courting ritual is over], I&#8217;m actually calling about such and such a matter..].<br \/>\nThis is usually followed by a lengthy discussion about the smell of fish or possibly me asking them what they&#8217;re wearing. The problem is, once I have concluded my important conversation or run out of breath due to heavy breathing, I find it hard and akward to end the phonecall.<br \/>\nPhrases such as &#8220;This converstaion\u00c2\u00a0 has concluded, bye&#8221; or &#8220;Thats all I need to say [hanging up]&#8221; seem a bit harsh, small talk is irrelevant and phrases such as &#8220;oh well, I hope you have a nice day&#8221; seem sort of weak.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a tough line between sounding too abrupt and sounding too flakey consequently making all the endings of my phone conversations unecessarily akward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Phone etiquete is a funny beast.
